Rare Bird Sparks Birdwatching Frenzy and Bus Disruption in Norfolk

Rare northern nutcracker attracts hundreds of birdwatchers to Mundesley, where inconsiderate parking causes disruption to local bus services this weekend.

A rare bird sighting in North Norfolk has attracted hundreds of birdwatchers from across the country, causing unexpected disruption to local bus services.

The northern nutcracker was first spotted in a garden in Mundesley on Friday 23 October, sparking excitement among wildlife enthusiasts keen to catch a glimpse of the unusual visitor.

The bird, which is normally found in parts of northern Europe and Siberia, had not been recorded in Norfolk since 1968.

Its arrival prompted hundreds of birdwatchers, known as twitchers, to descend on the coastal village over the weekend.

However, the sudden influx of visitors created problems for local traffic, with inconsiderate parking and vehicles blocking narrow roads.

Sanders Coaches warned passengers that services CH2, 34 and X55 could face last-minute alterations because buses were struggling to navigate some roads around Mundesley and Trunch.

Norfolk Police also received complaints about parking on Trunch Road and Water Lane, with officers attending to help manage the situation.

The northern nutcracker is roughly the size of a crow, with distinctive chocolate-brown feathers covered in white spots.

Bird experts say the species rarely visits Britain, making the Mundesley sighting particularly exciting.

Sanders Coaches has urged birdwatchers to park responsibly, reminding visitors that blocked roads could also prevent emergency vehicles from getting through.
