Norfolk Police have arrested two men following a series of cooking oil thefts targeting businesses across Norwich in recent weeks.
Two men have been arrested in Norwich following a series of thefts involving large quantities of used cooking oil from businesses across the city.
Norfolk Police confirmed that officers stopped a vehicle on St Stephens Street on Thursday 22 October as part of an investigation into several reported incidents.
A man in his twenties and another man in his forties were both arrested on suspicion of theft and going equipped to steal.
The arrests follow reports of multiple drums of cooking oil being stolen from commercial premises in Norwich during September and October 2026.
Police believe two suspects were involved in the incidents and have been investigating the circumstances surrounding the thefts.
Both men were taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Used cooking oil is a valuable commodity because it can be collected, processed and recycled into products such as biodiesel.
This makes stored cooking oil a potential target for thieves, particularly at restaurants, takeaways and other businesses which regularly dispose of large quantities.
The thefts can leave businesses facing replacement costs and disruption to their normal waste collection arrangements.
Norfolk Police have not confirmed the total value of the oil stolen or identified the businesses involved.
Inquiries into the reported incidents are continuing.
