Robert Smith jailed for 26 weeks after admitting twelve thefts from Norwich shops and twelve separate Criminal Behaviour Order breaches.
A prolific shoplifter who stole more than £700 worth of goods from shops across Norwich has been jailed after repeatedly ignoring a court order banning him from entering the stores.
Robert Smith, 48, of no fixed address, appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 14 October, where he admitted twelve counts of shop theft and twelve breaches of a Criminal Behaviour Order.
The offences took place between 31 August and 9 October 2026 at shops on Dereham Road, Woodgrove Parade and Heyford Road.
Smith stole a range of everyday products, including fish, confectionery, cleaning supplies and laundry items.
All twelve thefts were captured on CCTV, with Smith subsequently identified by shop staff and police officers.
He had previously been made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order in December 2025, which specifically prohibited him from entering several shops, including Co-op and Tesco stores.
Despite those restrictions, Smith continued to target premises covered by the order.
He was arrested by police on Dereham Road on Tuesday 13 October and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning.
Following his guilty pleas, magistrates sentenced Smith to 26 weeks in prison and ordered him to pay a £154 victim surcharge.
The sentence follows repeated breaches of restrictions designed to prevent further offending against businesses in Norwich.
