Norfolk firefighters have been formally thanked for their response to summer wildfires, including incidents at Mousehold Heath and Kelling Heath.
Firefighters across Norfolk have been praised for their dedication and bravery after responding to dozens of wildfires during the summer's prolonged periods of hot and dry weather.
The county's Lord-Lieutenant, Lady Dannatt, has presented a special letter of thanks to crews at Carrow Fire Station in Norwich, recognising their efforts in protecting communities and the natural environment.
The summer saw a series of significant fires across Norfolk, including major incidents at Mousehold Heath in Norwich and Kelling Heath in North Norfolk.
Fire crews faced challenging conditions as dry vegetation and high temperatures increased the risk of flames spreading quickly across grassland, heathland and wooded areas.
The incidents required extensive firefighting operations and placed additional pressure on emergency crews during an already busy period.
Lady Dannatt's recognition reflects the important contribution made by firefighters throughout the county, many of whom spent long hours responding to incidents during the warmest weather.
Deputy Lieutenants have also been visiting fire stations across Norfolk to personally thank crews for their commitment and hard work.
The recognition comes as Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service continues working with partner organisations to improve preparations for future wildfire seasons.
Fire safety officials are reminding residents that wildfire prevention remains important, particularly when visiting woodland, heathland and other areas of natural beauty.
The county's emergency services hope that increased public awareness will help reduce the risk of similar incidents in future summers.
