Planned strikes by Great Yarmouth council maintenance workers have been suspended after a revised offer in an employment conditions dispute.
Planned industrial action by around 40 maintenance and repair workers at Great Yarmouth Borough Council has been called off following a new offer from council management.
Members of the Unite union had been due to walk out on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 October as part of an ongoing dispute over employment terms and conditions.
However, following further negotiations, the council has presented an improved offer which will now be put to union members for a vote.
The dispute involves workers who were previously employed by contractor Norse before transferring back to the council around two years ago.
Unite says the employees have not been fully brought into line with the nationally recognised Green Book terms and conditions applying to other council workers.
The union has been seeking a standard 37-hour working week without a reduction in pay, improved holiday entitlements and full recognition of employees' previous continuous service.
It has also called for a clear timetable to resolve outstanding employment issues and appropriate backdated payments.
Unite regional officer Keith Henderson confirmed that industrial action had been paused to allow members to consider the revised offer.
The suspension means the anticipated disruption to maintenance and repair services at council properties has been avoided for now.
The outcome of the ballot will determine whether workers are satisfied with the proposed agreement or whether further negotiations may be required.
