Charity Helps 40 Feral Cats Near Loddon

Thursday, 15 October 2026 20:21

Cats Protection has spent almost £3,600 trapping and neutering around 40 feral cats living in a colony near Loddon, Norfolk.

An animal charity has spent almost £3,600 helping a colony of around 40 feral cats found near Loddon.

Residents contacted Cats Protection in July after becoming concerned about the growing number of cats and their welfare.

Volunteers from the charity’s Norwich and District branch began trapping the animals so they could be checked, neutered and given any veterinary treatment they needed.

Most of the cats have since been returned to the site, with the charity planning to continue monitoring their health and ensure the colony does not continue to grow through further breeding.

Cats Protection says it is the largest feral colony its Norwich team has ever been asked to deal with.

One kitten, named Atlas, required particularly intensive treatment after being found with entropion, a painful condition which causes the eyelids and eyelashes to turn inward and rub against the eyes.

The kitten ultimately required surgery to remove both eyes.

The overall cost of trapping, neutering, returning and providing specialist care for the colony has reached almost £3,600.

Cats Protection says neutering feral colonies is essential to prevent unwanted litters and reduce future suffering.

The charity is appealing for donations to help recover some of the costs and says volunteers will continue checking the colony in the months ahead.
