Reedham and Freethorpe have become Mindful Villages, expanding a Broadland scheme supporting local residents with mental health, wellbeing and help.
Two more Broadland communities have joined a scheme designed to support positive mental health and wellbeing.
Reedham and Freethorpe have both been officially recognised as Mindful Villages.
The Mindful Towns and Villages initiative creates local networks of trained Wellbeing Champions who can offer a listening ear and supportive conversation.
Volunteers are also trained to recognise when someone may need further help and to signpost people towards appropriate services.
With Reedham and Freethorpe joining the scheme, 21 communities across Broadland have now achieved Mindful Town or Village status.
Nearly 300 Wellbeing Champions have also been trained across the district.
Broadland District Council says having trained volunteers within local communities can make it easier for people to talk about their mental health before problems become more serious.
The scheme is not intended to replace professional mental health services.
Instead, champions provide an approachable local point of contact, helping reduce stigma around discussing wellbeing and making residents more aware of support available to them.
The council says the expansion into Reedham and Freethorpe demonstrates growing interest from communities wanting to play a role in supporting residents’ wellbeing.
