Residents have welcomed plans to regenerate Norwich’s Carrow Works but raised concerns about extra traffic around the development site locally.
Plans to regenerate Norwich’s former Colman’s Mustard factory have been welcomed by residents, but concerns have been raised about the potential impact on traffic.
Homes England and Norwich City Council are developing proposals for the Carrow Sites, including the historic former mustard factory beside the River Wensum.
The first phase would provide up to 300 homes, with a high proportion expected to be affordable.
Carrow forms part of the much larger East Norwich Regeneration Area, which has been earmarked for more than 3,500 homes alongside thousands of new jobs.
Public engagement events have given residents an opportunity to see emerging plans and speak directly to the development team.
While many have welcomed the prospect of bringing the largely derelict brownfield site back into use, concerns have been raised about the additional traffic new housing could generate.
Particular attention has focused on Martineau Lane roundabout, which already becomes heavily congested and provides an important route towards Trowse and the A47.
Residents say transport infrastructure will need to be carefully considered as the plans develop.
Homes England says public feedback will help shape the emerging proposals.
The wider vision also includes new public spaces, improved walking and cycling routes and better access to Norwich’s riverside.
