Norfolk Fire Staff Honoured At Annual Awards

Tuesday, 6 October 2026 20:46

Norfolk Fire and Rescue staff have been honoured for long service and achievement after the service’s busiest August on record.

Fire and Rescue staff from across Norfolk have been recognised for their service and achievements at the organisation’s annual awards.

The ceremony at The Assembly House in Norwich celebrated long service alongside exceptional work carried out by individuals and teams during the past year.

Thirty-eight people received long-service honours.

Among them was Watch Manager Tony Pointer from Holt, who marked an extraordinary 50 years with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

Tony joined in 1976 at the age of 19 and has spent more than three decades in charge at Holt Fire Station.

It is estimated he has attended more than 7,000 incidents during his career.

Other awards recognised achievements in areas including leadership, wellbeing, innovation, community work and fundraising.

The ceremony followed an exceptionally demanding summer for firefighters across Norfolk.

August was the busiest month in the history of Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service, with crews responding to 1,295 incidents.

The service also declared a major incident during the month as firefighters tackled several significant fires simultaneously during extremely hot and dry weather.

Norfolk Fire and Rescue says the awards provide an opportunity to recognise the dedication of operational crews, control-room teams, support staff and partner organisations.

The service has thanked recipients and their families for their contribution to keeping communities across Norfolk safe.
