Nearly 1,700 Young People Supported Over Summer

Thursday, 1 October 2026 11:36

Nearly 1,700 young people were supported by Norfolk County Council youth workers through free summer activities in communities across Norfolk.

Nearly 1,700 young people in Norfolk were supported by county council youth workers during the summer holidays.

Norfolk County Council’s Targeted Youth Support Service organised activities across Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Thetford and King’s Lynn, designed to provide young people with safe places to meet and build confidence.

Weekly sessions were also held at Jenny Lind Park in Norwich.

One of the biggest successes was the new Chill on the Hill programme in Norwich Castle Gardens, delivered in partnership with Castle Quarter.

More than 600 young people attended the sessions, which included karaoke, arts and crafts, gaming and quizzes.

Youth workers were also available to talk to young people about their wellbeing, aspirations and personal safety.

Other activities provided for young people already working with the service included watersports, music production, radio broadcasting, photography, beauty and wellbeing courses and creative workshops.

The summer programme received £5,000 from funding provided through the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner.

The PCC’s office has allocated £175,000 in Serious Violence Duty funding to support the county council’s wider targeted youth work.

Norfolk County Council says the summer activities help youth workers build trusted relationships with young people, reduce isolation and encourage positive choices.
