A Norwich man who killed his landlord during a psychotic episode has been given an indefinite hospital order by court.
A man who killed his landlord at a home in Norwich has been made subject to an indefinite hospital order.
Moses Fernandes, 23, appeared at Norwich Crown Court after previously admitting the manslaughter of 71-year-old Terry McFadyen on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
Fernandes had been lodging at Mr McFadyen’s home in Layer Close, Bowthorpe.
Emergency services were called shortly after 4am on 3 November 2025 after Fernandes, who was in an agitated state, contacted the ambulance service.
The court heard that after initially speaking to paramedics outside the property, Fernandes went back inside, armed himself with a knife and attacked Mr McFadyen.
Despite the efforts of emergency services, he died from multiple stab wounds.
Fernandes was arrested at the scene and a bloodstained knife was recovered.
Expert evidence presented to the court concluded that he had been experiencing a psychotic episode at the time.
He has now been made subject to a Section 37 Hospital Order with a Section 41 restriction under the Mental Health Act.
Norfolk Police described Mr McFadyen as a devoted father, much-loved partner, family member and friend, and said the impact of his death on those close to him had been profound.
