Plans for around 190 replacement allotments in Wymondham have received backing from South Norfolk MP Ben Goldsborough ahead of a decision.
Plans to create around 190 new allotment plots in Wymondham have received the backing of South Norfolk MP Ben Goldsborough.
Wymondham Town Council has submitted a planning application for a new 3.3-hectare allotment site on farmland north of Tuttles Lane West.
The proposals follow the closure of the former Chapel Lane allotments in 2025.
More than 130 plot holders were displaced after Anglian Water reclaimed the land, which it had leased to the town council, to allow improvements to Wymondham Water Recycling Centre.
The new site would include around 190 plots, providing enough space for former Chapel Lane allotment holders as well as helping address the town’s waiting list.
Plans also include parking, accessible plots, storage facilities, water collection systems, new hedging and areas of meadow grassland.
Mr Goldsborough has written in support of the application, saying residents have waited long enough for replacement facilities.
He said allotments provide benefits beyond growing food, including supporting physical and mental wellbeing and creating a sense of community.
South Norfolk Council is considering the planning application, with consultation currently under way.
A decision is expected later this year.
