Norfolk County Council is considering allowing passengers to use Norwich Airport Park and Ride to ease parking problems in Hellesdon.
Norfolk County Council is considering allowing Norwich Airport passengers to use its nearby park-and-ride site in an attempt to tackle parking problems in Hellesdon.
Residents have complained about travellers leaving vehicles on residential streets for extended periods to avoid paying airport parking charges.
The practice, sometimes described as “fly-parking”, has become an increasing concern in roads surrounding the airport.
Norwich Airport Park and Ride has around 620 spaces and is located less than 400 metres from the terminal.
However, although buses from the site serve the airport, passengers cannot currently leave their vehicles there while travelling by air.
Norfolk County Council says officers are now looking at whether there is enough spare capacity to accommodate some airport users alongside people using the existing commercial park-and-ride service.
The authority says discussions are at an early stage and no decision has yet been made about whether the change would be practical or how any airport parking arrangement might operate.
The council hopes making better use of existing parking spaces could help reduce pressure on nearby residential roads.
Any proposal would need to ensure sufficient capacity remains available for passengers using the park-and-ride service into Norwich city centre.
