Sir Stephen Fry is backing Fakenham Film Festival as the Norfolk event prepares to showcase emerging filmmakers and locally connected productions.
Sir Stephen Fry is backing a Norfolk film festival which aims to celebrate emerging filmmakers and productions with connections to the county.
Fakenham Film Festival takes place at Central Cinema from Friday 2 October until Sunday 4 October.
The programme brings together short films from independent filmmakers, locally produced work and feature films with links to Norfolk.
Organisers say around 30 independent film submissions have been received from young and emerging filmmakers across a range of genres.
Among the weekend’s highlights will be a screening of Sir Stephen Fry’s 2003 film Bright Young Things on Saturday evening.
The film, which marked Fry’s feature-film directing debut, was adapted from Evelyn Waugh’s novel Vile Bodies and stars actors including Emily Mortimer, Michael Sheen and James McAvoy.
Fry, who was born in Norfolk, has sent a message saying he is delighted the festival is taking place and pleased that his film has been included.
He will not be able to attend in person because of filming commitments in Madrid, Spain.
The festival also includes family screenings, local independent films, a horror showcase and a Sunday red-carpet finale featuring competition films and awards.
Organisers Active Fakenham say the event is designed to give new filmmakers an opportunity to see their work on the big screen.
