Norwich City are out of the Carabao Cup after a 5-0 third-round defeat away to holders Manchester City on Thursday.
Norwich City are out of the Carabao Cup after suffering a 5-0 third-round defeat against holders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
The Canaries faced a City side featuring several young players, but the hosts still proved too strong.
Seventeen-year-old Floyd Samba marked his senior Manchester City debut by opening the scoring with a header before Rayan Cherki doubled the advantage ahead of half-time.
Samba struck again early in the second half to make it 3-0 and complete a memorable debut.
Allan then added a fourth before Ryan McAidoo completed the scoring late on.
Norwich did manage to get the ball into the Manchester City net during the second half, but the effort was ruled out for offside.
The result brings Norwich’s League Cup campaign to an end at the third-round stage.
Manager Philippe Clement made a number of changes to his starting line-up for the trip to the Premier League champions as City continue a busy run of fixtures.
Norwich will now turn their attention back to the Championship.
The Canaries return to Carrow Road on Sunday 20 September when they face Bolton Wanderers, with kick-off at 1.30pm.
