Anglian Water retains a two-star environmental rating after twelve serious pollution incidents despite fewer overall sewerage incidents recorded in 2025.
Anglian Water has been told it must make further improvements after receiving a two-star environmental performance rating for the fifth consecutive year.
The Environment Agency's latest assessment, covering 2025, rated the company as requiring improvement following continued concerns about pollution incidents across its network.
Regulators recorded 12 serious pollution incidents during the year, an increase from seven in 2024.
However, the total number of pollution incidents involving sewerage assets fell from 437 to 368 over the same period.
Despite that reduction, the Environment Agency says the company's performance remains below the standards expected.
Anglian Water was one of four water and sewerage companies in England to receive a two-star rating, while four others received just one star.
The company says it recognises the need for further improvements but believes progress is already being made.
It points to a 62 per cent reduction in storm overflow spills and improvements in wastewater treatment performance.
Anglian Water has also announced plans to invest more than £2 billion in environmental improvements across the East of England between 2025 and 2030.
The programme includes more than 2,600 individual schemes designed to reduce pollution and improve water quality.
The Environment Agency says it will continue monitoring water companies and taking enforcement action where environmental standards are breached.
