Great Yarmouth burglar Paul Gilbert receives another prison sentence after targeting elderly residents and breaking into properties during December 2025.
A prolific burglar who deliberately targeted elderly residents in Great Yarmouth has been handed a further prison sentence for offences committed last December.
Paul Gilbert, 38, formerly of York Road, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday 27 October, where he was sentenced to another 18 months in prison.
The sentence will run alongside the prison term he is already serving.
Gilbert carried out offences at several homes during December 2025, often targeting properties at night while residents were asleep.
He initially admitted a burglary on St Nicholas Terrace in which a house key was stolen.
Further investigation by Norfolk Police's Operation Converter team uncovered evidence linking him to six additional burglaries, many involving attempts to access key safes outside elderly residents' homes.
In some incidents he was unable to gain entry, while in others bags, purses and cash were stolen.
Gilbert had previously been sentenced to 876 days in prison in January 2026 as a repeat burglar.
One victim told the court the experience had left him anxious in his own home, repeatedly checking security and worrying about leaving windows open.
Norfolk Police described burglary as an invasive crime which can have a lasting impact on victims, particularly when they are asleep in their homes.
Officers said they remain committed to pursuing repeat offenders and securing justice for victims.
