A primary school in Hopton remains closed as specialist police negotiators deal with a man threatening to ignite petrol containers.
A primary school in Hopton near Great Yarmouth has been closed today as police continue dealing with an incident involving a man who has locked himself inside a property.
Officers were called to a house on Coast Road shortly after 11.30am on Wednesday 4 November following reports that a man had made threats during attempts to evict him.
Norfolk Police say the man refused to leave the property and threatened to ignite petrol containers if anyone entered.
Specialist police negotiators and emergency services were called to the scene, with a cordon established around the surrounding area.
Several nearby properties were evacuated as a precaution, along with Hopton Church of England Primary Academy.
Most residents have since been allowed to return home, although two households remained displaced following the latest police update.
The primary school has confirmed it will remain closed on Thursday 5 November, with remote learning provided for pupils through arrangements shared with parents.
School leaders say the safety and wellbeing of children and staff remains their highest priority.
Coast Road remains closed while specialist officers work to resolve the situation.
Norfolk Police are asking members of the public to avoid the area and follow instructions from emergency services.
Further updates will be provided as the incident develops.
