Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner Colin Sutton has cancelled his planned 127-date theatre tour following concerns raised by local residents.
Norfolk’s Police and Crime Commissioner has cancelled plans to take part in a 127-date national theatre tour after hearing concerns from residents.
Colin Sutton, who was elected as Norfolk’s PCC for Reform UK in July, had been due to appear in The Makings Of A Murderer – Double Jeopardy at venues around the UK during 2027.
The former Metropolitan Police detective initially said the performances would take place in his own time and would not interfere with his responsibilities as commissioner.
However, the extensive schedule prompted questions from residents and political opponents about whether it could be combined with his public role.
Mr Sutton initially said he would discuss changes to the programme with its promoter after receiving messages from people in Norfolk.
He has now confirmed he will not take part in the planned tour.
Speaking to councillors at North Norfolk District Council’s scrutiny committee, Mr Sutton said the response he received personally from residents had caused him to reconsider his position.
He said he did not want to give people the impression that he was not taking his role seriously.
The Police and Crime Commissioner is responsible for setting policing priorities and budgets in Norfolk and holding the Chief Constable to account.
Mr Sutton’s annual salary for the role is £79,052.
