Driver Jailed Over Fatal Norwich Collision

Monday, 14 September 2026 10:26

A driver has been jailed for causing a cyclist’s death in Norwich after travelling at almost twice the speed limit.

A driver who was travelling at almost twice the speed limit when he fatally struck a cyclist in Norwich has been jailed for four and a half years.

Yasin Khan, 23, of Rowantree Road in Newcastle, appeared at Norwich Crown Court after previously admitting causing death by dangerous driving.

The collision happened on the A140 Farrow Road at its junction with Bowthorpe Road on the evening of Monday 27 February 2023.

Khan was driving a white Volkswagen Golf when he collided with a cyclist, a man in his 30s.

Emergency services attended, but the cyclist died at the scene.

Forensic analysis found Khan had been travelling at between 55mph and 59mph as he passed through the junction, where the speed limit is 30mph.

Khan has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison and disqualified from driving for seven years.

He will also have to take an extended driving test before being allowed back behind the wheel.

Norfolk Police described the collision as entirely avoidable and said Khan’s decision to drive at almost twice the speed limit had catastrophic consequences.
