Date Confirmed For Norwich Christmas Lights Switch-On

Tuesday, 15 September 2026 10:36

Norwich’s Christmas lights will be switched on in November, with free entertainment and a new family trail planned across the city.

Norwich’s Christmas lights will be switched on on Thursday 19 November as the city begins its festive celebrations for 2026.

The free family event will run from 5.30pm until 7pm and is expected to include live performances, seasonal entertainment, festive activities and special guests before the lights are illuminated across the city centre.

Norwich Business Improvement District says festive lighting will remain in place through the Christmas period and into January.

Energy-efficient displays will once again illuminate streets, trees and key areas of the city centre as part of efforts to create a festive atmosphere while reducing energy use.

However, organisers say Norwich’s well-known Tunnel of Light will not return this year.

Instead, the wider Christmas programme is expected to include a new free family trail through the city, alongside further entertainment and seasonal activities.

Full details of performers and attractions for the switch-on evening are still being finalised and will be announced closer to November.

The annual event traditionally attracts thousands of people into Norwich and is designed to encourage visitors to enjoy the city’s shops, restaurants, market and other attractions during the important Christmas trading period.

Norwich BID says the festive programme aims to give families free reasons to visit the city throughout the season.
