A Thetford man has been banned from driving for 17 months after admitting drug-driving and careless driving following a collision.

A Thetford man has been banned from driving for 17 months after admitting drug-driving and careless driving following a collision with a moped.

Lee Nicholl, 43, of Elm Road, appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on 25 August in connection with the incident on Howlett Way in Thetford.

Police were called at around 7am on 20 February following reports of a collision involving a car and a moped.

An investigation, which included CCTV footage and witness statements, found Nicholl had veered into the path of the moped rider.

The rider was knocked from his bike and taken to hospital, although his injuries were not serious.

Nicholl failed a roadside drug test at the scene and subsequent blood analysis showed he was over the legal limit for cannabis.

He admitted drug-driving and driving without due care and attention.

As well as being disqualified from driving for 17 months, Nicholl was fined £1,050 and ordered to pay a £420 victim surcharge and £85 in court costs.

Norfolk Police said the case highlighted the potentially devastating consequences of driving after taking drugs and that the rider had been fortunate not to suffer more serious injuries.
