Norwich Airport Closed By Air Traffic Control Strike

Friday, 28 August 2026 16:04

Norwich Airport is closed to flights today as air traffic control staff stage a 24-hour strike over pay and conditions.

Norwich Airport is closed to all air traffic today as air traffic control staff stage a 24-hour strike in an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.

No flights are operating to or from the airport on Friday 28 August, with airlines contacting affected passengers about cancellations and alternative arrangements.

Members of the Prospect union voted to strike after rejecting the airport’s latest offer following further negotiations.

Prospect says its members are paid below market rates compared with air traffic control staff at other airports and is also seeking improvements to maternity and paternity provision.

Norwich Airport says staff received a 3.5% pay rise in April and have now been offered a further 3% increase from July, followed by another 3% from April 2027.

The offer also includes a 2% retention allowance.

The airport says its benchmarking suggests the proposed package would put most affected roles at or above the average for comparable regional airports.

Prospect says the offer still falls short of what members are seeking.

Norwich Airport says its offer remains on the table and it wants further talks to resolve the dispute.

Passengers affected by today’s closure are being advised to contact their airline for the latest information.
