Norwich Airport Faces Further Closure Disruption

Thursday, 3 September 2026 12:04

Norwich Airport will close to air traffic for several periods today because staff sickness and industrial action are limiting controller cover.

Norwich Airport will be closed to air traffic for several periods today because of a shortage of available air traffic controllers.

The airport says staff sickness, combined with ongoing industrial action, has reduced its ability to bring in additional staff to provide cover.

On Thursday 3 September, the airport will be closed to aircraft movements from 6am until 2pm.

Two further closures are scheduled from 4pm until 4.45pm and from 6.45pm until 7.30pm.

Airlines have been informed of the restrictions and passengers are being advised to check the latest status of their flight before travelling to the airport.

Several KLM services between Norwich and Amsterdam have already been cancelled because of operational issues, with affected passengers being contacted about alternative arrangements.

Air traffic control staff represented by the Prospect union have been taking industrial action short of a strike since 17 August as part of an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.

The action limits the flexibility available to the airport when staffing problems arise.

Norwich Airport has apologised to passengers for the disruption and says travellers should continue to check directly with their airline for the latest information.
