A new neighbourhood health service has launched in Norwich, offering mental health, alcohol, social care, housing and debt support locally.
A new neighbourhood health and wellbeing service has launched at St Saviour’s Yard in Norwich.
The pilot aims to make it easier for people living in the NR3 area to access a range of health, care and practical support closer to home.
Three units at St Saviour’s Yard will initially provide mental health assessments, alcohol support and advice covering social care, housing and debt.
The project brings together a number of organisations, including Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust, Norfolk County Council’s adult social care services and Change Grow Live.
Health leaders say putting different services in one community location should help people receive support earlier, while reducing barriers which can make accessing several organisations complicated.
The facilities are not intended for emergency treatment and will not generally operate as a walk-in service. Residents will normally be invited to appointments through existing referral routes.
The units are being leased from St Saviour’s Yard operator Meanwhile Creative, with the NHS funding the lease and initial set-up costs.
The pilot will run until February 2027.
Those involved say lessons from the project could eventually help similar neighbourhood-based services to be developed elsewhere across Norfolk.
