Norfolk Police is urging young drivers to avoid risky behaviour as a national campaign targets speeding, distraction and peer pressure.
Young drivers in Norfolk are being urged to make safer choices behind the wheel as police support a national road-safety campaign.
The three-week initiative runs from 14 September until 4 October and focuses on drivers aged between 17 and 25.
Using the message “There are no respawns”, the campaign takes inspiration from gaming culture to remind younger motorists that mistakes made on real roads can have permanent consequences.
Police say young drivers remain disproportionately represented in serious and fatal road collisions despite accounting for a relatively small proportion of licence holders.
The campaign focuses particularly on speeding, distraction, overconfidence and the influence of passengers and friends.
Officers are also encouraging young passengers to speak up if they feel unsafe because of the way somebody is driving.
Norfolk Police says genuine driving skill is not about speed, but about staying in control, anticipating hazards and getting passengers home safely.
Chief Inspector Gary Miller, from the joint Roads and Armed Policing Team, says every journey involves choices and young motorists should consider the potential consequences before taking unnecessary risks.
The campaign forms part of a wider national effort coordinated by the National Police Chiefs’ Council.
