A teenage boy has been arrested following a serious assault on a man in his seventies in Thetford.
Norfolk Police were called to King Street on Saturday evening following reports that a man had been assaulted.
The victim, aged in his seventies, was taken to hospital where he remains with serious injuries.
Police launched an investigation following the incident and a teenage boy was arrested on Sunday morning.
He was detained on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody while officers continue their enquiries.
Norfolk Police has not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the assault or confirmed whether the people involved were known to each other.
Officers are continuing to investigate what happened in the town centre and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information which could assist their enquiries to come forward.
Police are also likely to be interested in any relevant CCTV, mobile-phone or dashcam footage recorded in and around King Street at the time of the incident.
The investigation remains ongoing.
