Norfolk’s Spirit of Coltishall Jaguar will leave County Hall for restoration work before its expected return to Norwich next year.
The Jaguar aircraft displayed outside Norfolk County Hall is being temporarily removed for a major restoration project.
The Spirit of Coltishall has stood outside the council’s Norwich headquarters since 2007 as a tribute to RAF Coltishall and the people who served there.
In early October, the retired aircraft will be carefully removed and transported to the former RAF Coltishall airbase, now part of Scottow Enterprise Park.
Specialists and volunteers from the RAF Station Coltishall Heritage Trust will carry out a comprehensive programme of work.
The Jaguar has suffered from almost two decades of exposure to the weather and requires repairs alongside treatment for corrosion.
Work will also include structural stabilisation and a complete repaint to restore its appearance and help protect the aircraft for the future.
The project could cost up to £35,000 and is being funded through income generated by matchday parking at County Hall, which is reserved for maintenance and improvement work at the site.
The aircraft has particularly strong links with Coltishall, which was home to RAF Jaguar squadrons for decades before the base closed in 2006.
The restored aircraft is expected to return to its prominent position outside County Hall during 2027.
