Great Yarmouth First leader Jon Wedon has quit Restore Britain, citing growing political pressures and the impact on his family.
The leader of Great Yarmouth First has quit Rupert Lowe’s Restore Britain party, saying the pressures of politics had increasingly affected his family.
Jon Wedon has also left his job as constituency office manager for Great Yarmouth MP Rupert Lowe.
Mr Wedon said some aspects of his experience in politics had been “quite unpleasant” and that the demands of his political and professional roles had begun to have an impact beyond him personally.
He will continue serving as an independent councillor.
Mr Wedon holds seats on both Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Norfolk County Council.
Great Yarmouth First is the local political grouping aligned with Restore Britain and enjoyed significant success in the Norfolk County Council elections earlier this year.
Its candidates won every county seat they contested in the Great Yarmouth area.
Mr Lowe has thanked Mr Wedon for his work in the constituency office and wished him and his family well.
The departure represents a change for Great Yarmouth First just months after its strong performance at the local elections.
Mr Wedon says he intends to continue representing residents despite no longer being part of the political group.
