UEA is asking former students to help equip its new Norwich dental school ahead of its planned opening next September.
The University of East Anglia is asking former students to help fund equipment for its new dental school in Norwich.
Alumni have been contacted and asked to consider making regular donations of £10 a month towards the facilities needed to train the first generation of dental students.
UEA says donations could help provide specialist instruments, state-of-the-art training equipment and clinical spaces where students will learn practical dentistry skills.
The university has stressed there is no funding crisis and says the new school remains on course to welcome its first students in September 2027.
UEA has been allocated 25 government-funded undergraduate dental places each year.
The university had hoped for a larger initial intake, with officials acknowledging that operating a dental course with a relatively small cohort makes the financial model more challenging.
The new course will be the first undergraduate dental programme in the East of England.
Students will train at a new dentistry centre being developed alongside the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.
Health leaders hope training dentists locally will help address longstanding problems recruiting and retaining NHS dentists across Norfolk and the wider region.
Applications for the first student places are already open.
