Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident as crews tackle multiple fires across Norfolk amid dry conditions.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service has declared a major incident as firefighters deal with numerous fires across the county.
The major incident was declared at around 3.15pm on Thursday, with the service saying the number of ongoing incidents requiring multiple fire appliances was placing significant pressure on its resources.
One of the most visible fires broke out at Mousehold Heath in Norwich, where smoke could be seen across parts of the city. Firefighters asked people to stay away from the area while crews tackled the blaze.
Crews have also been dealing with fires at locations including Kelling, Watton and Wymondham, alongside numerous other incidents across Norfolk. The fire service's live incident feed showed more than a dozen active incidents during the afternoon.
Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service says it remains available for emergencies and will prioritise incidents where there is a risk to life or property.
However, people are being warned that response times to lower-risk incidents could be longer while crews remain committed elsewhere.
Residents are also being asked to call 999 only for genuine emergencies and to take particular care outdoors while vegetation remains extremely dry.
The situation remains ongoing and further updates are expected from the fire service.
