Work has begun on a £36 million multi-storey car park at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, creating more than 1,300 parking spaces.
Work has begun on a new £36 million multi-storey car park at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn.
The new facility will provide more than 1,300 parking spaces for patients, visitors and staff, while helping to free up land needed for the hospital’s planned redevelopment.
Construction of the car park is an important enabling project for the proposed new hospital. Moving parking into a purpose-built multi-storey facility will allow existing areas of the site to be used as plans for the replacement hospital progress.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital is one of the hospitals included in the government’s New Hospital Programme and is expected to be replaced because of the condition of its ageing buildings.
The current main hospital opened in 1980 and has become widely known for the hundreds of structural supports installed across parts of the building because of concerns surrounding its reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete roof.
The new car park is expected to open by Christmas 2027.
Hospital bosses say the development will provide significantly improved parking facilities while creating the space required to deliver the wider transformation of the site.
Construction work will continue alongside the hospital’s normal operations, with patients and visitors being advised to follow local signs and any temporary parking arrangements introduced as the project progresses.
