Reuse Shops Raise £32,000 For Charity

Norfolk County Council's Reuse Shops have raised £32,000 to support children and young people experiencing bereavement across the county.

A partnership between Norfolk County Council's Reuse Shops and children's bereavement charity Nelson's Journey has raised £32,000 to support young people across the county.

The donation will help Nelson's Journey continue providing specialist advice, counselling and emotional support to children and young people following the death of a parent, sibling, relative or someone else close to them.

The money has been generated through sales at the county council's Reuse Shops, which operate at 14 recycling centres across Norfolk. The shops sell donated household items, furniture, toys, books and other reusable goods that might otherwise have been thrown away.

As well as raising money for good causes, the scheme helps reduce waste by giving unwanted items a second life. Last year alone, almost 1,400 tonnes of reusable goods were diverted from disposal through the initiative.

Nelson's Journey said the funding will make a meaningful difference, helping the charity continue supporting children and families as they cope with grief and bereavement.

Norfolk County Council says the success of the Reuse Shops demonstrates how small purchases can have a positive impact, benefiting both the environment and local charities while encouraging more sustainable ways to recycle and reuse everyday items.
