Norwich Named Among UK’s Most Creative Cities

Tuesday, 25 August 2026 18:00

Norwich has been ranked among the UK’s ten most creative cities, recognised for opportunities, education, cultural amenities and affordability overall.

Norwich has been ranked among the ten most creative cities in the UK in a new study looking at where people working in creative industries can thrive.

The UK Creative Cities Report 2026, produced by design platform Affinity, assessed 50 cities across the country and placed Norwich tenth overall.

Researchers examined three main areas: access to creative opportunities, access to creative spaces and affordability.

Factors included the availability and salaries of creative jobs, design agencies and university courses, alongside arts funding, museums, theatres, galleries, music venues, co-working spaces and green areas.

Average rents and utility costs were also taken into account to measure how affordable each city is for people pursuing creative careers.

Worcester topped the overall ranking, with Carlisle in second place and Dundee third.

Affinity says the findings show smaller regional cities are increasingly able to compete with traditional creative centres such as London and Manchester by offering a combination of career opportunities, cultural facilities and more affordable living.

Norwich already has a strong reputation for the arts and creative industries, with two universities, numerous theatres, music venues, galleries and cultural organisations.

The city is also internationally recognised as a UNESCO City of Literature, further strengthening its reputation as an important centre for creativity and culture.
