The Best Western Brook Hotel in Norwich is among 13 sites formally closed to asylum accommodation by the Home Office.
A Norwich hotel has been formally included in the latest round of asylum accommodation closures announced by the Home Office.
The Best Western Brook Hotel in Norwich is one of 13 hotels across England that have stopped being used to house asylum seekers.
The Government says the latest closures mean fewer than 160 asylum hotels are still in use nationally, compared with around 400 at the system's peak in 2023.
Ministers say they remain committed to ending the use of hotels for asylum accommodation altogether.
As part of that strategy, the Home Office is increasing its use of larger, more basic accommodation sites, including former military bases. Plans are currently being explored for sites including MOD Barnham near Thetford, with the Government arguing that larger sites could reduce accommodation costs and lessen reliance on hotels.
The 13 latest hotel closures are expected to save around £51 million, taking the estimated savings from hotel closures this year to £224 million.
The Norwich hotel can now return to normal commercial use or be redeveloped for another purpose, depending on the plans of its owners.
The Home Office says more asylum hotels are expected to close as the wider accommodation programme continues.
