Norfolk County Council will trial a specialist pothole repair machine in South Norfolk during the first week of September.
Norfolk County Council is preparing to trial a specialist machine designed to repair potholes and road defects more quickly and efficiently.
The JCB Pothole Pro will be tested on a number of planned highway repairs in South Norfolk during the first week of September.
The machine is designed to carry out several stages of a pothole repair using one piece of equipment, potentially reducing the amount of time crews need to spend at each location.
The council says the trial will assess whether the technology can provide longer-lasting repairs, improve efficiency and minimise disruption for drivers.
The machine and its operator are being provided to Norfolk County Council at no cost for the initial trial. If the results are successful, the authority says a longer-term trial could follow.
Councillor Tom Dickerson, cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport, says maintaining the condition of Norfolk's roads remains a priority and the council wants to explore new ways of carrying out repairs while making effective use of taxpayers' money.
The council will assess how the machine performs on Norfolk roads before deciding whether it could play a wider role in future highway maintenance.
