Great Yarmouth's historic Winter Gardens restoration requires additional funding after surveys revealed more work than originally expected.
More funding will be needed to complete the restoration of Great Yarmouth's historic Winter Gardens after detailed surveys uncovered additional work.
More than £18 million has already been secured to restore the Grade II listed Victorian glasshouse, which has been closed to the public for several years while plans to preserve the landmark have been developed.
Great Yarmouth Borough Council says further investigations into the condition of the structure have identified extra repairs and restoration work that were not fully understood when the original project costs were calculated.
Although the council has not confirmed how much additional funding is required, it says it remains committed to completing the ambitious restoration project.
The aim is to return the iconic seafront attraction to public use by the end of 2028, creating a venue for community events, exhibitions, performances and visitors while preserving one of the country's most significant surviving Victorian cast-iron and glass buildings.
Council leaders say they are continuing to explore funding opportunities to bridge the gap and ensure the project can move forward.
The Winter Gardens is regarded as one of Great Yarmouth's most recognisable heritage buildings, and the restoration is expected to play an important role in the town's wider regeneration and tourism ambitions.
