Holt Firefighter Celebrates 50 Remarkable Years

A familiar face at Holt Fire Station has celebrated 50 years protecting the local community and responding to thousands of emergencies.

A familiar face at Holt Fire Station has celebrated an incredible milestone after reaching 50 years of service with Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service.

Tony Pointer joined the fire service aged just 19 in 1976 and has spent the last 31 years as Watch Manager at Holt, becoming a well-known and trusted figure in the local community.

During those five decades, it is estimated Tony has attended more than 7,000 incidents – from house fires and road collisions to emergencies affecting families and businesses across North Norfolk.

His connection with Holt runs especially deep. Tony's father Herbert also served at the station, while his son Ricky later followed the same path, meaning the Pointer family has now given more than 100 years of combined service to the local fire service.

Colleagues marked the achievement with a special celebration at Holt Fire Station, recognising Tony's remarkable commitment to the town and the generations of residents he has helped over the years.

And despite reaching a milestone most people would see as the perfect moment to retire, Tony says he is not finished yet.

He continues to train and complete the same annual fitness assessments as other firefighters and says he intends to keep serving Holt for as long as he remains fit enough.

After half a century answering the call, Tony remains very much part of the team – and part of the community he has spent his working life protecting.
