Five Arrested After Thetford Disorder

Friday, 7 August 2026 17:42

Five people have been arrested following several nights of disorder linked to anti-immigration protests in Thetford.

Five people have now been arrested following three nights of disorder linked to anti-immigration protests in Thetford.

Norfolk Police say officers have been dealing with repeated incidents of public disorder after groups gathered in the town over several evenings. During the unrest, attempts were made to enter properties where asylum seekers were being accommodated.

The force says a number of asylum seekers have since been moved from some of the properties as a precaution to ensure their safety while investigations continue.

Two police officers were injured during the disorder on Wednesday evening, with one officer suffering a serious bite while responding to the incidents.

Police say the situation was significantly calmer on Thursday night, although officers remained in the area to provide reassurance and maintain public safety.

Investigations are continuing, and detectives are reviewing CCTV, body-worn video and other evidence to identify those involved. Norfolk Police says further arrests are possible.

The force has thanked the majority of residents who remained peaceful and has stressed that while people have the right to protest lawfully, violence, intimidation and criminal damage will not be tolerated.
