Escaped Savannah Cat Loses Paw

An escaped Savannah cat found after two months on the loose in Norfolk has undergone surgery to amputate an injured paw.

An escaped Savannah cat which spent around two months on the loose in Norfolk has had one of its paws amputated after being found seriously injured.

Blaze disappeared from his home and was eventually discovered around five miles away following numerous reported sightings from members of the public.

When the exotic hybrid cat was finally captured, rescuers found he had suffered a badly broken paw as well as a wound to his chest.

The injuries required veterinary treatment and one of Blaze’s paws has since been amputated.

Wildlife rescuers involved in tracking him down say information provided by local residents played an important role in locating the animal and preventing his injuries from becoming even more serious.

Savannah cats are a hybrid breed originally developed by crossing domestic cats with servals, a wild African cat. Their size and distinctive spotted appearance can make them particularly noticeable when seen roaming outdoors.

Blaze’s lengthy disappearance prompted efforts to track his movements as sightings were reported across the surrounding area.

Despite losing a paw, he is now receiving care following his ordeal.

Those involved in the search have thanked members of the public who reported sightings, saying the information ultimately helped rescuers find Blaze and get him the veterinary treatment he needed.
