East Anglia has officially entered drought status following prolonged hot, dry weather and continued pressure on regional water supplies.

The Environment Agency says prolonged periods of below-average rainfall, combined with high temperatures, mean water is now being used faster than it can be naturally replenished. As a result, river levels have fallen, groundwater supplies remain under pressure and the risk of wildfires continues to be high across the region.
The declaration follows one of the driest periods in recent years, with dry ground, shrinking watercourses and stressed wildlife becoming increasingly common across parts of Norfolk and Suffolk.
Officials are encouraging households, businesses and farmers to use water wisely by avoiding unnecessary use wherever possible. While essential supplies remain secure, the Environment Agency says conserving water now will help protect the environment and reduce pressure on reservoirs and rivers.
The drought declaration could pave the way for further restrictions if conditions fail to improve, including tighter limits on water use by companies and, where necessary, additional measures introduced by water providers.
The Environment Agency says it will continue to monitor conditions closely and work with water companies, farmers and local authorities as the region responds to the ongoing dry weather.
