Councils Explore Plans For New Town

Broadland and South Norfolk councils are recruiting a senior officer to help develop plans for a potential new town.

Broadland District Council and South Norfolk Council are recruiting a senior officer to help progress plans for a potential new town as the area prepares for increased housing growth.

The new post will lead work on exploring the feasibility of creating a new settlement, helping to coordinate planning, infrastructure requirements and engagement with partners.

The councils say the appointment reflects the need to plan ahead as higher government housing targets place increasing pressure on the region to deliver new homes alongside schools, healthcare, transport links and other essential services.

No location has been confirmed for the proposed new town, although previous discussions have focused on sites in South Norfolk because of the area's transport connections and opportunities for future development.

Council leaders say the role will help ensure any proposals are carefully planned, with a focus on creating sustainable communities that include employment opportunities, green spaces and the infrastructure needed to support future residents.

The appointment does not mean a final decision has been made to build a new town. Any future proposals would be subject to detailed planning work, public consultation and the relevant approval processes before development could begin.

The councils say the work is part of their long-term strategy to manage growth while meeting the area's future housing needs.
