Residents and businesses joined forces to refill a dried-up duck pond after weeks of hot, dry weather left wildlife struggling.
A Norfolk community has come together to help save a duck pond that dried up during the recent spell of hot and dry weather.
Residents and local businesses in Hempton, near Fakenham, organised a tractor and water tanker to refill the pond after around 50 ducks were left without their usual source of water.
The prolonged dry conditions had caused water levels to fall dramatically, leaving the pond almost completely empty and raising concerns about the welfare of the birds and other wildlife that depend on it.
Working together, volunteers arranged for thousands of litres of water to be brought to the site, helping to restore the pond and provide the ducks with a safe place to feed, drink and shelter.
The community effort has been widely praised as an example of local people stepping in to protect wildlife during one of the driest periods East Anglia has experienced in recent years.
With the region officially in drought, conservation groups continue to encourage people to help wildlife where they can by providing fresh water for birds and other animals during periods of prolonged hot weather.
Residents involved in the project say they were delighted to see the ducks quickly return to the replenished pond, with many hoping rainfall in the coming weeks will help restore natural water levels.
