A major accessibility project will improve access to Norwich City Hall, including step-free entry through the main entrance.
Work is set to begin on a £625,000 accessibility improvement programme at Norwich City Hall, aimed at making the historic building easier for everyone to use.
The project will include the installation of a glass access ramp and a new lift, allowing wheelchair users to enter through the building's main front doors for the first time since the landmark civic building opened.
The improvements will also see automated entrance doors, an accessible changing facility and additional accessible toilets installed, helping to ensure the building better meets the needs of residents and visitors.
Norwich City Council says the investment is part of its commitment to improving accessibility and making public buildings more inclusive, while carefully preserving the character of the Grade II* listed City Hall.
The council believes the changes will provide a more welcoming experience for people with disabilities, older visitors and families with young children, ensuring they can access council services and attend civic events more easily.
Work is expected to begin shortly, with efforts being made to minimise disruption while the improvements are carried out. Once completed, the scheme will represent one of the most significant accessibility upgrades to the building in its history.
