Norfolk County Council is considering an alternative route for the Norwich Western Link after previous plans were withdrawn over environmental concerns.
Norfolk County Council is considering an alternative route for the proposed Norwich Western Link, more than a year after its previous plans were withdrawn.
The project is intended to create a connection between the western end of the A1270 Broadland Northway and the A47, helping to address congestion and traffic problems to the west of Norwich.
The council previously submitted plans for a 3.9-mile dual carriageway, but the application was withdrawn in January 2025 after concerns were raised about the potential impact on protected barbastelle bats.
Since then, the authority has been looking again at possible solutions for improving transport in the area, including alternative road routes and changes to the existing road network.
However, the possibility of a new route has prompted fresh concerns in Weston Longville.
Parish councillor Ruth Horton, who lives close to the area being considered, has warned that a revised route could have a major impact on the village.
The Western Link has been proposed as a way of reducing congestion and rat-running on smaller roads west of Norwich, where residents have raised concerns about heavy traffic for several years.
Norfolk County Council is continuing its assessment of the available options before deciding how the project should progress.
