A Serco employee has been charged following an investigation into information about Thetford addresses later targeted during violent disorder.
A man has been charged following a police investigation into the release of information relating to addresses in Thetford which were later targeted during violent disorder.
James Jobson, 62, of Highlow Road in Costessey, appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday 17 August charged with misconduct in a public office.
Norfolk Police says the charge relates to information concerning a number of addresses in Thetford which were subsequently targeted during several nights of disorder in the town.
Jobson works for Serco, which provides accommodation for asylum seekers under Government contracts. Serco told ITV it is cooperating fully with police and would not comment further because of the ongoing legal proceedings.
The disorder in Thetford earlier this month included damage to properties associated with asylum accommodation and assaults on police officers. A wider police investigation into the unrest has resulted in a number of arrests.
Jobson was remanded in custody following his appearance at magistrates’ court and is due to appear at Norwich Crown Court on Monday 14 September.
As criminal proceedings are now active, no findings have been made against Jobson and he remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless proven guilty in court.
