Great Yarmouth’s Wednesday fireworks are being replaced by a 200-drone light show after warnings over the heightened risk of wildfires.
Great Yarmouth’s weekly summer fireworks are being replaced by a spectacular drone display following warnings over the heightened risk of wildfires.
The traditional BIG Wednesday fireworks planned for Wednesday 19 August have been cancelled after a national government alert warned of a very high risk of wildfires across the country.
Instead, 200 illuminated drones will take to the skies above Great Yarmouth seafront, creating a specially arranged light display for visitors.
The drone show is due to begin at 10pm and will replace the usual fireworks display on Central Beach.
AeroSPARX, which has also been entertaining crowds during the resort’s Wednesday summer events, is still expected to take to the skies at dusk. However, its aircraft will use smoke only, with the usual airborne pyrotechnics removed because of the fire risk.
Great Yarmouth’s free Wednesday evening displays have been running throughout the school summer holidays and were originally scheduled to continue until 26 August.
Organisers say arrangements for the final Wednesday event on 26 August are still being considered, with a further update expected once a decision has been made.
The changes follow prolonged hot and dry conditions which have increased concerns about fires across the country.
