A Norwich man has been jailed after admitting a series of shop thefts and assaulting a security guard in the city.
A Norwich man has been jailed after carrying out a series of thefts from shops across the city centre.
Paul Earle, 40, admitted 12 counts of shop theft, one count of attempted theft and assaulting a security worker who challenged him during one of the incidents.
Appearing before Norwich Magistrates' Court, Earle was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison.
The offences took place at a number of city centre stores, with magistrates hearing that Earle repeatedly targeted retailers before his arrest.
During one incident, a member of security staff attempted to stop him, leading to an assault before police were called.
The court heard Earle admitted all of the offences, bringing the case to a conclusion without the need for a trial.
Retail crime remains a priority for Norfolk Police, which continues to work with businesses across Norwich to identify prolific offenders and reduce shoplifting in the city.
Officers encourage retailers to report every incident, saying CCTV, witness statements and information shared between businesses play an important role in bringing repeat offenders before the courts.
