Libraries Turn Up Summer Reading Fun

Thursday, 16 July 2026 11:02

Norfolk Libraries are combining books and music for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, with more than 1,000 children already participating.

Norfolk Libraries are using music, storytelling and special events to encourage more children to discover a love of reading during the summer holidays.

More than 1,000 youngsters have already signed up for this year’s Summer Reading Challenge, which is free to take part in at libraries across the county.

This year’s programme combines reading with a range of music-themed activities designed to make libraries fun and welcoming places for children and families throughout the school break.

Events include silent discos, interactive storytelling sessions and radio workshops, alongside other activities taking place at individual libraries.

Children taking part are encouraged to read regularly throughout the summer, choosing books that interest them and recording their progress as they work towards completing the challenge.

Those who finish will receive a medal and certificate recognising their achievement.

The annual scheme is designed to help children maintain their reading skills during the long school holidays while encouraging them to explore new authors, subjects and stories.

Norfolk County Council says libraries play an important role in giving families free access to books and activities throughout the summer.

With more than 1,000 children already registered, families are being encouraged to visit their local library to sign up and find out which free events are taking place nearby.
