An Attleborough couple have been sentenced after police discovered cannabis plants and dried drugs worth more than £46,000 at home.
An elderly couple from Attleborough have been sentenced after police discovered a cannabis-growing operation worth more than £46,000 at their home.
Mark Ayres, 71, and his wife Marion Ayres, 70, both of Burgh Common, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Thursday 5 November.
The court heard that officers from Norfolk Police executed a search warrant at their property on 20 May 2025 as part of an investigation into the supply of illegal drugs in the area.
During the search, officers discovered 25 cannabis plants growing inside the house, along with approximately 5.7 kilograms of dried cannabis.
Police estimated the combined street value of the drugs at more than £46,000.
Mark Ayres had previously pleaded guilty to producing cannabis and possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
His wife Marion admitted a charge of cannabis production.
Following their guilty pleas, Mark Ayres was sentenced to three years and six months in prison.
Marion Ayres received a nine-month prison sentence, suspended for twelve months.
Police Sergeant Daniel Shelley said drug production and supply can have a damaging impact on communities and stressed that officers remain committed to tackling those responsible.
Norfolk Police are encouraging residents who suspect illegal drug activity in their neighbourhoods to report their concerns so officers can investigate.
